The Voice came back strong in its Season 2 premiere after the Super Bowl and Monday's first two-hour installment of the season offered more of the same.
Adam Levine, Blake Shelton, Cee Lo Green and Christina Aguilera are great. They take this seriously enough to make The Voice competitive but not so much that they forget to have fun, and the Blind Auditions are a hoot as a result.
From Cee Lo's glasses to Adam's prayer-like meditation while focusing on the audition, to Blake accusing the contestants of being "fooled by flash and boobs" (i.e. Christina earning some good prospects), the laughs were aplenty.
Each coach picked up two more talented team members Monday. Who was the best? Let's get down to business and see who was chosen by which judge/coach ...
Team Christina nabbed the first audition of the night in The Line, a country duo of Hailey and Leland from Nashville who chose Xtina over all three of the others.
Their version of "American Girl" was a four-chair turner:
Christina then scored Lindsey Pavao, who performed "Say Aah." Her unique tone impressed Christina, Cee Lo, and Blake, but Xtina beat them out again:
Team Cee Lo got Jamar Rogers by default, as he was the only one to turn around for him, but it likely wouldn't have mattered, as the guy loves Cee Lo.
His smooth R&B and raspy rocker tone during "Seven Nation Army", combined with a moving back story, made him feel like a lock to advance Monday.
Maybe no one bothered to fight Cee Lo for him?
Cee Lo also got Angie Johnson when nobody else did. She is best known for a performance of an Adele song in a military uniform on YouTube ... until now:
Team Blake took Gwen Sebastian as his first team-member of the night. Everyone but Christina turned around for her interesting version of "Stay."
Blake also added Jermaine Paul to his roster. This guy opened for Alicia Keys on tour and his take on "Complicated" was great ... but is he too arrogant?
Team Adam got on the board late again with Kim Yarbrough, a 50-year-old who chose him over Christina after singing "Tell Me Something Good."
The final spot went to Adam and Angel Taylor, whose "Someone Like You" impressed all the guys. See if you can understand why right here ...
Neal Middleton, Pamela Rose, Dez Duron, and Hoja Lopez also tried out, but none of the coaches turned around. Better hope for that wild card round.
