Elizabeth Smart, who was kidnapped by Brian David Mitchell from her home in 2002 at age 14, only to be found nine months later, is engaged, her father Ed confirms.
"We're very excited for her," Ed said Friday. "She told us at home last Saturday."
"I wasn't really surprised. They've been so happy together. We're thrilled. We're looking forward to her moving on to this next stage and leading a very happy life."
Ed, who is staying mum on wedding details, including the groom’s name, says Elizabeth "wants to keep it very private and feels very strongly about that right now."
The Salt Lake Tribune reports that wedding registries at Williams-Sonoma and Pottery Barn list an July 1 wedding date for Elizabeth Smart and Matthew Gilmour.
So, that's probably his name.
Chris Thomas, a rep for Elizabeth, says he can't confirm the wedding date or the name of Smart's fiancé, but says, "I know they're looking at a summer wedding."
"There are a lot of details to still be worked out. She's very public in her child advocacy work, but has decided she wants to keep her personal life private."

I'm so happy that Elizabeth is moving along with her life after what she previously endured. However, she should stay engaged for a while to insure he is "The Guy" - he is only 21!! Elizabeth, no harm in waiting a couple years...you're only 24 and have a whole life ahead of you. Just my 2 cents :-)

Congrats Elizabeth. THG was it necessary to announce the pending groom's name and the date? Elizabeth had wanted it to be kept private so why not honor her wishes? Jerkoffs.

Congratulations to Elizabeth and Matthew! As Carl said, Elizabeth is indeed a beautiful soul. She is also a true inspiration to others who have gone through horrific abuse and a living testament to God's healing power. She deserves only the best in life, and I am so happy for her that she has found her soul mate.

I'm so happy for her! I remember when this story came out. She and I were both 14 when the kidnapping took place. Because of her kidnapping, my High School had three lectures throughout the school year in attempt to prepare us if we were ever kidnapped. I'm glad that she was able to live a normal life...congratulations!

Guess I'm confused as 2 why if she says she wants stuff private- people would take it amoung themselves 2 find a registry and snoop! Makes no sense get a life
